Uhura Digital Created a Brand Design and Online Platform for Smart City Berlin

In order to achieve the goal of becoming Europe’s leader in smart cities, Berlin had to start with one simple thing: An online platform that bundles the network’s activities.

And the Smart City network can prove commitment from different levels of the city’s society: from civic engagement to start-ups and business representatives of different company sizes, science, and research to political representatives and experts from the Berlin administration.

The Smart City network wants to form a positive image for Smart City initiatives and projects and support the exchange of stakeholders via an online platform. Additionally, the website and the platform should make the Smart City projects known and visible.

The Berlin-based digital agency Uhura Digital was commissioned to build this platform.

Brand Strategy and Brand Design

In order to develop and define the brand strategy and a brand design, several workshops together with the Berlin Senate Chancellery and the stakeholders of the network. Together, a brand manual as a base for future work was condensed.

Effective Communication Platform

Based on the specifications, Uhura then developed an online platform that provides comprehensive information about the Smart City Berlin network. It also offers all stakeholders and members an effective communication platform in an extranet which has the advantages of easy access and a broad and good overview.

Sophisticated Map Application

The website of Smart City Berlin shows the many different projects that have already been launched in the city. It also bundles the information and contact options in various content and service offerings and in a comprehensible UX design. The UX design was one of the main focuses of Uhura when developing the new platform for Smart City Berlin. This led to the sophisticated map application and the overall structure of the platform.

Powerful Extranet

As already mentioned, Uhura also build an extranet for all the Smart City Berlin members. This is used as a basis to exchange information, identify contacts and work on documents in different working groups. Thanks to the usable and low-threshold approach, the extranet is a powerful tool for current and future activities.

Content Creation

Uhura’s content team created a wide variety of editorials, visual articles, or infographics for the website and the network’s communication work. With the help of this content, the message of the Smart City network can be brought to attention and strengthen Berlin’s role as a European Smart City leader.
